Hendrick Medical Center joins a growing number of Texas birth facilities that are enhancing its support for new mothers and their decision to breastfeed by earning the Texas Ten Step Program facility designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services. The Texas Ten Step Program encourages breastfeeding as the preferred method of feeding for newborns and infants.
“Hendrick Medical Center is proud to announce that we have implemented The Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding,” said Layla Bohall, women and children’s services educator at Hendrick Medical Center. “The steps facilitate achievement of maternal feeding goals, support maternal confidence and increase the likelihood of breastfeeding success."
Based on the World Health Organization/ UNICEF’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, the program aims to assist birth facility’s support of breastfeeding mothers before, during and after delivery; encourages them to identify breastfeeding resources for the mother after she is discharged; and assists facilities in improving on national performance measures such as the Centers for Disease Control’s Breastfeeding Report Card.
“We have worked hard to achieve Texas Ten Steps designation, and are continually working to assure that we provide the best care for mothers and babies in the Abilene area,” said Bohall.
