Hope Fund at Vera West Women's Center
Breast cancer does not discriminate among age, race or economic status. Since it is treatable when found at an early stage, all women over 40 should have a yearly mammogram to ensure the cancer can be detected at the very earliest stage.
Prior to 2001, community funding assistance was available only for women age 50 and above. The Hope Fund was established in 2001 to provide mammograms for the large population of women in our community who were under the age of 50 and unable to afford mammograms.
The staff at Vera West Women’s Center saw a significant community health need, established the Hope Fund and continues to hold annual fundraisers to assure that no woman in the Big Country be without this potentially life-saving procedure. Thanks to community efforts and donations, the Hope Fund has assisted more than 450 women since its inception in 2001.
If you know of someone who would benefit from the Hope Fund, please contact The Alliance for Women and Children at 677-5321 or Vera West Women’s Center at Hendrick at 670-3950.
